Overton County Arts “Paint Livingston” painted a beautiful success for its first “plein air” art competition held October 3 through 5.
Livingston-Overton County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shannon Cantrell said, “The Paint Livingston: Plein Air Competition and Art Sale surpassed all expectations, and I couldn’t be prouder of the OCAC Board and our incredible volunteers.”
OC Arts welcomed 38 talented artists from Georgia, Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga, and the Upper Cumberland and over the course of three days they painted the beauty of Overton County.
Overton County Arts Council President Tim Richardson said, “We are thrilled by the incredible turnout and the overwhelming support from both the community and the artists who made Paint Livingston such a memorable event. This competition has showcased Livingston as a budding cultural hub, and we’re already looking forward to making next year’s event bigger.”
Artists began their works of art on Thursday, Oct. 3 and continued through Saturday, Oct. 5, when they had to finish and turn in their pieces for judging by renowned artist Connie Erickson.
Winners of both the painting competition and quick draw competition were announced on Saturday afternoon and were also awarded prizes totalling $3,450, which was donated by First National Bank of Tennessee.
FNB President Ken Dodson said, “First National Bank of Tennessee was honored to be a sponsor for the inaugural Paint Livingston event. FNB is committed to our community, and we realize that visual arts are an important aspect to the culture of the community we serve.
“Overton County Arts Council did a phenomenal job of planning and hosting this event. It was neat to see the various artists out and about around Livingston over the three days of this event. And the quality of the paintings that were on display at the Millard Oakley Library on Saturday were very impressive as was the outpouring of support that was shown by this community.”
Paintings by the artists were put on display in Millard Oakley Public Library and were available for purchase.
As the event wrapped up, Cantrell reflected on how the vision for creating an arts organization was a dream at first and now seeing it come to life is inspiring.
Cantrell expounded, “There’s something truly special about having the right team at the right time, and this team-our dedicated volunteers, board members, and OCAC President Tim Richardson-has proven they are exactly that. Their hard work and passion made this event a huge success.”
